Spray and Stretch® Technique
Developed by Dr. Janet Travell, a former White House Physician appointed by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, the spray and stretch® technique is a learned modality that can quickly alleviate acute pain and restricted range of motion due to muscle trigger points. The application of a vapocoolant acts as a counterirritant to myofascial pain due to muscle spasm and trigger points. The use of the spray and stretch technique has a wide and varied application in trigger point therapy.
Visit the Janet Travell Foundation for more resources on the technique.
